چکیده

Hypothermic animals subjected to total venous inflow occlusion and open eardiotomy develop elevations in right atrial mean pressure and postmortem evidences of myocaidial failure. Acetyl strophanthidin, given before inflow stasis, prevented myocardial failure and increased survival. Myocardial failure was attributed to anoxia resulting from decreased coronary blood flow and alterations in the oxygen content of the blood supplying the myocardium. Perfusion of the coronary system with small quantities of oxygenated blood obtained from donor animals permitted open cardiotomy with survival.

Of ions and temperature: the complicated interplay of temperature, fluids, and electrolytes on myocardial function

This article discusses the potential of levosimendan to treat calcium-induced myocardial dysfunction associated with deep hypothermia. Moderate hypothermia (30 to 34°C) usually improves myocardial contractility and stabilizes heart rhythm, but deep hypothermia can cause severe myocardial dysfunction, which is mediated by intracellular calcium overload. In experimental studies, levosimendan appe...

Myocardial damage after prolonged accidental hypothermia: a case report

INTRODUCTION A case of cardiac toxicity due to prolonged hypothermia is reported. CASE PRESENTATION A 42-year-old woman of Caucasian origin presented with hypothermia after an accident. She developed atrial fibrillation and heart failure with minor electrocardiographic changes, which mimicked ischaemia. She recovered completely after one month of treatment for heart failure. CONCLUSION Prol...

Cardiovascular effects of epinephrine during rewarming from hypothermia in an intact animal model.

Rewarming from accidental hypothermia is often complicated by "rewarming shock," characterized by low cardiac output (CO) and a sudden fall in peripheral arterial pressure. In this study, we tested whether epinephrine (Epi) is able to prevent rewarming shock when given intravenously during rewarming from experimental hypothermia in doses tested to elevate CO and induce vasodilation, or lack of ...

Hemodynamic and metabolic effects of hypothermia and extracorporeal circulation in experimental myocardial infarction and shock.

• In myocardial infarction with shock not responding to conventional therapy, the circulation is inadequate to meet the body's oxygen needs at normal temperature. Therefore, it might be advantageous to utilize hypothermia to reduce the oxygen requirement in such individuals. There have been some data reported with tliis technique in experimental myocardial infarction, but there has been little ...

Therapeutic Hypothermia for Cardioprotection in Acute Myocardial Infarction

Mild therapeutic hypothermia of 32-35°C improved neurologic outcomes in outside hospital cardiac arrest survivor. Furthermore, in experimental studies on infarcted model and pilot studies on conscious patients with acute myocardial infarction, therapeutic hypothermia successfully reduced infarct size and microvascular resistance. Therefore, mild therapeutic hypothermia has received an attention...
